DO

Do Keep All Traffic Off for At Least 24–48 Hours
Why: Even light foot traffic can cause permanent marks, dents, or surface imperfections. For driveways or parking areas, keep vehicles off for at least 7 days.
Do Allow for Proper Curing
Why: Concrete gains strength as it cures. Full strength takes about 28 days, but the first week is most critical. Follow your contractor’s timeline for safe use.

Why: Controlled moisture helps prevent cracks and promotes even curing. Your contractor may recommend gently misting the surface with water once or twice a day for the first few days, especially in hot or windy conditions.

Why: Leaves, dirt, or trash left on the surface can stain or imprint the concrete. Gently sweep debris away without dragging heavy tools across the surface.

Don’t Walk, Bike, or Drive on It Too Soon
Why: Even after it looks “dry,” the concrete isn’t ready for traffic. Walking too soon can cause surface dusting or permanent footprints. Driving or parking before 7 days can cause cracks or ruts.
Don’t Place Items on the Concrete
Why: Heavy planters, furniture, or equipment can leave marks or cause uneven curing. Wait until your contractor says it’s safe.
Don’t Allow Pets or Children Near the Area
Why: Paw prints, toys, or accidental spills (drinks, chemicals, etc.) can cause lasting damage or stains.
Don’t Add Water or Chemicals Unless Instructed
Why: Adding extra water to the surface after finishing can weaken the top layer, leading to dusting, scaling, or flaking. Never use de-icers or harsh chemicals on new concrete during the first winter.
Don’t Cover With Plastic or Non-Breathable Materials (Unless Directed)
Why: Trapping moisture can cause uneven curing, discoloration, or surface defects. If covering is needed, your contractor will use special curing blankets or breathable materials.
Don’t Rush Landscaping or Construction Work
Why: Avoid using lawn mowers, placing sod, or starting construction work near the slab until the curing period is over. Vibrations and impacts can cause cracks.
Don’t Ignore Weather Alerts
